Subject: Dr. Aviva Nubel, Testimonial

November 6, 2010 will mark the 9^th year since my Gender Reassignment Surgery with Dr. Brassard in Montreal, Canada. Prior to surgery it is required by the Benjamin Standards that 2 official opinions of the mental stability and readiness for the surgery be obtained from very competent professions. Dr. Amy Altenhaus and Dr. Nubel were my choices for these professions. Unlike Dr. Altenhaus, Dr. Aviva Nubel was much more accessible and more down to earth in her care. I felt she was a very personal friend in addition to my Doctor … which I considered a very big plus at that point in my life.

One of the personal items I particularly enjoyed for my nearly 1.5 years of friendship (before my surgery) was her open house. I wondered how she ever could allow so many people such unchecked access to her house! She much be an angel I thought on my occasions … I could never do that … never! BUT, those open house times allowed me to have access to so many women going down the same path as I. Many were further along the road to surgery and those were the people I needed to talk to.

My personal twice monthly sessions were something that had deep impact on me. I could talk to a professional without feeling nervous. There were many questions I had still not resolved or even knew the answer to, so these were the times I “confessed” my feelings of “wrongness” since my earliest memories of about 3 to 4 years of age. Slowly everything seemed to come in focus and eventually my surgery was scheduled with Dr. Brassard.

Oh … this was another thingy I only was able to obtain from Dr. Nubel. On at least 3 occasions, she had Dr. Menard or Dr. Brassard come all the way from Montreal to a session at her house where there were maybe 50 or more girls seeking answers from these well known surgeons. This was how I came to know Dr. Brassard and choose him as my surgeon.

My experience with Dr. Nubel was topped off when she came to visit while I was recuperating at Dr. Brassard special Residence for those undergoing GRS in Montreal, Canada. I knew that no other professional would have done that. I know that my other Doctor didn’t even ask when my surgery was scheduled,

All in all a very rewarding time was spent under the wing of Dr. Nubel. I wish her well now that nearly 9 years have passed.
